| Public transport bus falls into road pit in the City of David | |

|
On Saturday, January 2, 2010, a hole with a diameter of almost 1 meter in depth by 1.3 meters was created by a collapse of part of the main road of the neighborhood of Silwan in East Jerusalem. A short while later an Egged bus fell into the pit, and the road was blocked to traffic. The bus was rescued two hours later. Seemingly the pit in the main road was caused by the underground archaeological excavation executed by the Antiquities Authority, funded by the settler Elad organization. In recent years a number of similar collapses of roads and foundations in Silwan has occurred, a year ago a the floor in the middle of a classroom of the local UNRWA school suddenly collapsed into a gaping hole and three students were injured. It is clear that the underground excavations are causing severe damage to the neighborhood of Silwan.
